What's New in DS Server 2.0

DS Server 2.0 brought the features of TX Text Control 30.0 to the Document Editor and the Document Viewer: comments compatible with MS Word, SVG images, extended character attributes, a redesigned ribbon and a mobile view of the viewer. Update 2.0.2 moved to TX Text Control 30.0 SP1. The 2.0.2 archive has no change log; the facts below come from the release page, the release articles and the archive itself.

The date of 2.0.0 is that of its release announcement, and the date of 2.0.2 is that of the download package. Text Control announced 2.0.2 on March 8, 2022.

Document Editor

  • Comments. Several authors can comment on any range of text, and comments can be attached to tracked changes. Comments are compatible with MS Word: they are loaded from and saved to Office Open XML (DOCX), DOC and RTF.
  • SVG images. SVG vector images can be inserted into documents, scaled like any other image and exported to Adobe PDF.
  • Extended character attributes. Text can be formatted as subscript or superscript, with text effects, character spacing and character scaling. The font and formatting style dialog boxes offer the new attributes.
  • Ribbon design. The ribbon has a new design with hover feedback, a more readable font and a better minimized mode. Sidebars for comments, tracked changes and field navigation can be shown and hidden.
  • Script name. In the 2.0.2 archive, and in every archive since, the script of the Document Editor is /documenteditor/JS/ds-server-document-editor.js. The 1.x archives named it after the version, for example txtextcontrol-ds-1.1.0.js. JavaScript shows how a page loads it.

Document Viewer

  • Mobile view (2.0.0). The Document Viewer has a view designed for mobile devices.
  • Tracked changes (2.0.2). With TX Text Control 30.0 SP1, the Document Viewer can process tracked changes.

Client Packages

  • 2.0.0. The NuGet packages TXTextControl.DocumentServices.DocumentEditor, TXTextControl.DocumentServices.DocumentProcessing, TXTextControl.DocumentServices.DocumentViewer and TXTextControl.DocumentServices.Admin and the Angular packages @txtextcontrol/tx-ng-ds-document-editor, @txtextcontrol/tx-ng-ds-document-viewer and @txtextcontrol/tx-ng-ds-document-processing were released as version 2.0.0.
  • 2.0.2. Only the Document Viewer package was updated, to TXTextControl.DocumentServices.DocumentViewer 2.0.2. The other packages stay at version 2.0.0.

Upgrading

  • Update the script url. A page that loads the Document Editor script from DS Server by its 1.x file name has to load ds-server-document-editor.js instead.
  • Update the client packages. Use the version 2.0 NuGet and npm packages with DS Server 2.0.

The runtime stays the same: DS Server 2.0 runs on .NET Core 3.1, like version 1.x.
