TX Text Control ActiveX

What's New in TX Text Control ActiveX 20.0

Topic

Right-to-left text for languages such as Arabic and Hebrew, right-to-left application design and multilingual documents are what TX Text Control ActiveX 20.0 brought over version 19.0, together with new buttons on the button bar. The lists below name each feature and the members behind it.

New Features

  • Right-to-left support. TX Text Control renders right-to-left text for languages such as Arabic or Hebrew:
    • Each line of a document can be bidirectional: it can contain parts written from left to right and parts written from right to left. The text input position behind a left-to-right character is on its right side, and behind a right-to-left character on its left side.
    • A paragraph can be formatted from right to left, which orders its blocks of bidirectional text from right to left. The new TextDirection property supports this, and the paragraph formatting dialog box lets an end user format a paragraph from right to left.
    • In a right-to-left paragraph, a tab is a distance from the document's right page margin, and the natural paragraph alignment and tab kind is right-aligned. The horizontal ruler bar shows the horizontal origin of such a paragraph at the right page margin.
    • When a paragraph is justified, TXTextControl can now insert Arabic Kashida lines in addition to expanding spaces. Justification sets the kind of justification of each paragraph, and both kinds can be combined.
    • The new ChangeTextDirection method changes the writing direction of one or more paragraphs. It toggles the alignment of a paragraph from left to right or from right to left, and toggles left and right tabs. The alignment of centered and justified paragraphs does not change.
  • Right-to-left application design. All TX Text Control controls have a RightToLeft property for a right-to-left application design:
    • A TXTextControl then shows its vertical scroll bar at the left border and has its zoom origin at the top right corner (TXTextControl.RightToLeft).
    • All built-in dialog boxes and context menus have a right-to-left design.
    • The TXRulerBar control has a right-to-left ruler, and the TXButtonBar and TXStatusBar controls show their buttons or text parts from right to left.
  • Multilingual documents. A piece of text can now be formatted for a specific language, which spell checking and hyphenation use, and one document can contain several languages. The new built-in dialog box of LocaleDialog gets or sets the language of a text selection or of the current text input position; in code, you use the Locale property. All text filters support the language settings of other text formats. The new ShowLocale property makes the TXStatusBar control show the language at the text input position.
  • Button bar. The TXButtonBar control has more predefined buttons. PosStrikethru, PosSubscript and PosSuperscript add buttons for these font attributes. PosLeftToRight and PosRightToLeft add buttons that set the writing direction to left to right or right to left.
