Licensing Overview
How much does it cost to ship a WPF application built with TX Text Control, and who on the team needs a license? TX Text Control .NET for WPF is licensed per developer, and the applications those developers build are distributed without runtime fees. The summary below is written for developers, team leads and buyers: who needs a license, what you may ship, what a subscription adds and what the trial allows. How the license gets into a project and a build is the subject of License Configuration.
The Licensing Model at a Glance
| License | What it covers | Who needs it |
|---|---|---|
| Developer license | Perpetual use of the licensed version by one developer | Every developer who works with the product, testers who compile the application included |
| Royalty-free distribution | Your applications on any number of machines, for any number of users, without runtime licenses | Nobody separately: it comes with the developer licenses |
| Subscription | One year of new versions, service packs, technical support and access to the Text Control Private NuGet Feed | Teams that want updates and support; renewal is optional |
| Trial version | The fully featured product for 30 days of evaluation | Developers who evaluate before they buy |
Developer Licenses
A license belongs to one developer, not to a company, a team, a machine or a number of concurrent users:
- Assigned, not shared. Each developer who develops, maintains, tests or otherwise works with TX Text Control .NET for WPF has a license of their own. A license can't be shared or used as a floating license.
- Reassignable. When a developer stops working with the product for good, you may assign the license to another developer.
- Perpetual. The license is valid worldwide and without time limit for the version you licensed, and you may build any number of applications with it.
- Build servers. Build servers and CI/CD systems that only compile or package the application need no license of their own, as long as all developers are licensed and nobody develops interactively on them.
- Code agents. An AI coding assistant or other code agent working for a licensed developer needs no license of its own, and the same applies to its use of the TX Text Control MCP server. Agents don't reduce the number of licenses: every developer who directs them or works with the code they produce is licensed.
A team of four developers who all work on the WPF application therefore needs four developer licenses. The price list offers the Professional and Enterprise editions as single developer licenses and as team licenses; Editions and Feature Availability compares them with the Standard edition.
Royalty-Free Distribution
TX Text Control .NET for WPF requires no runtime licenses and no royalties. Applications created by licensed developers may be distributed and deployed without limits:
- to customers, partners and other third parties, and within your own organization;
- to any number of installations, users and client machines.
Only the runtime files that Text Control designates as redistributable go with your application; Redistribution Overview lists them. When you give an application to others, the license agreement requires that:
- It offers substantial functionality beyond that of TX Text Control.
- It doesn't pass TX Text Control on as a standalone library, SDK or component.
- Its recipients can't use the TX Text Control files in it to build applications of their own.
- Its recipients don't receive your serial numbers, license keys or other licensing credentials.
- It was created and is maintained by licensed developers.
Your builds and CI/CD pipelines may use the NuGet packages, and an internal package mirror for your licensed developers and build systems is allowed. Republishing or repackaging the packages for third parties is not.
Subscription and Updates
The first year of a subscription is included with a license. During a subscription, you receive:
- All updates, service packs and new major versions
- Technical support by email, telephone and chat, with no limit on the number of incidents
- Access to the Text Control Private NuGet Feed
You renew a subscription for another year before it expires, or up to thirty days after the expiry date. After those thirty days, it can't be renewed.
After the Subscription Ends
The license stays valid when the subscription ends:
- You keep developing, maintaining and building applications with the versions you received during the subscription, and you keep deploying them royalty-free. Applications already deployed keep running.
- NuGet packages you obtained during the subscription may stay in your development environment or internal repository and remain usable.
- Versions released after the expiry, technical support and access to the private NuGet feed are no longer included.
Trial Version
The trial version, TX Text Control.NET for WPF 34.0 Trial.exe, is fully featured, free for 30 days and needs no serial number. The license agreement allows it for evaluation and testing only: not in production, not to provide services to others and not as part of a commercial application. Its evaluation notices must stay in place.
How the License Reaches Your Application
TX Text Control uses no activation dialog and no license server: the build compiles the license into your application, from txtextcontrol.wpf.license, the license file of the NuGet package, in .NET 8 or higher projects and from licenses.licx in .NET Framework projects. Development Licenses, Application Licensing and Build Servers go through each case, including class libraries that hold the license themselves.
What the Agreement Forbids
Among other things, the license agreement doesn't allow you to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble TX Text Control, or remove its license checks and notices
- Disclose serial numbers, license keys or other licensing credentials
- Let developers without a license develop with TX Text Control, directly or through a shared code agent or the MCP server
- Build a library, SDK or component whose main purpose is to offer substantially the same programming functionality to other developers
The License Agreement
The summary above does not replace the agreement, which is binding. You accept the end user license agreement of TX Text Control .NET for WPF when you install the product, and the current version is dated August 11, 2026. The number of licenses and the subscription period are those of your order. For questions about licensing a team, a project or a large number of developers, contact the Text Control sales team.
