Once the spell checker is connected, correcting a word takes one right-click. The application from [Create Your First Windows Forms Application](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/getting-started/tx-text-control/first-application/llms-full.txt) already has everything it needs: TX Text Control shows a spell check context menu for every underlined word, with suggestions and commands, and no code is involved. Try each command in the steps below and see what it does to the document.

### Prerequisites

- The application of [Create Your First Windows Forms Application](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/getting-started/tx-text-control/first-application/llms-full.txt), or of [Create a .NET Framework Application](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/getting-started/tx-text-control/dotnet-framework/llms-full.txt): a form with a `TextControl` whose [SpellChecker](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/spellchecker-property/llms-full.txt) property is set to a [TXSpellChecker](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-proofing/txspellchecker/llms-full.txt) and whose `IsSpellCheckingEnabled` property is `true`.

### Mark Some Misspelled Words

1. Press **F5** to start the application.
2. Type a sentence with a few mistakes, for example: *This is a sampke text for TX Text Control and TX Spell.*
3. Type a space after each word, or click elsewhere in the document.

Each word the English dictionary doesn't know gets a red zigzag line as soon as it is complete. Words written in capitals, such as "TX", are not checked by default, so they stay unmarked.

### Replace a Word With a Suggestion

1. Right-click the underlined word *sampke*. The spell check context menu opens:

![The context menu of the misspelled word "sampke" in a TextControl, with the suggestions sample, spake, smoke, samples and sampler, then Ignore, Ignore All, Add To Dictionary, Spell Check Dialog and Options.](https://docs.textcontrol.com/assets/img/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/textcontrol-context-menu.5b60b5a7.webp)
2. Click **sample**, the first suggestion.

The word is replaced and the underline disappears. The suggestions are sorted by how close they are to the misspelled word, so the first one is usually the word the user meant.

### Ignore a Word

Some words are correct but in no dictionary: names, product names, technical terms.

1. Type *Textcontrol* twice in the document. Both occurrences are underlined.
2. Right-click the first one and click **Ignore**. This occurrence loses its underline; the second one keeps it.
3. Right-click the second one and click **Ignore All**. Every occurrence of the word loses its underline.

Ignoring a word changes no dictionary: TX Text Control keeps the word in its list of misspelled words and only hides its underline. To accept a word for good, add it to a user dictionary with **Add To Dictionary**. The command adds the word to the editable user dictionaries of the spell checker, so it needs one; in the screenshot above, there is none, and the command is grayed out. [User Dictionaries](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/dictionaries/user/llms-full.txt) shows how to add one.

### Open the Dialog and the Options

The two commands at the bottom of the menu open dialogs:

- **Spell Check Dialog...** opens the spelling dialog, which walks through all misspelled words of the document one after the other. [Open the Spell Check Dialog](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/getting-started/tx-text-control/dialog/llms-full.txt) continues with it.
- **Options...** opens the options dialog of TX Spell .NET. Its first tab sets which words are checked, for example whether words in capitals or words with numbers are skipped. [Options Dialog](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/user-interface/options-dialog/llms-full.txt) describes it.

### The Same Menu Everywhere in the Document

The menu works in every part of the document: the main text, headers and footers, and text frames. If you connect more than one `TextControl` to the same `TXSpellChecker`, each of them shows the same menu with the same dictionaries:

![Four TextControls on one form with misspelled words underlined, and the context menu of one of them.](https://docs.textcontrol.com/assets/img/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/four-textcontrols-context.0b87ecfe.webp)

[Checking Multiple Controls](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/spell-checking/multiple-controls/llms-full.txt) shows how to set this up.

### Turn the Menu Off or Replace It

The [SpellCheckContextMenuStrip](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/spellcheckcontextmenustrip-property/llms-full.txt) property of the `TextControl`, in the **Properties** window, turns the menu off or replaces it with a menu of your own, which can contain the same commands. [Context Menus](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/user-interface/context-menus/llms-full.txt) lists its values and builds such a menu.

### Next Steps

- [Open the Spell Check Dialog](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/getting-started/tx-text-control/dialog/llms-full.txt): correct all misspelled words of a document in one pass.
- [As-You-Type Checking](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/spell-checking/as-you-type/llms-full.txt): what decides which words are underlined, and when.
- [Ignore Settings](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-spell-dotnet-winforms/spell-checking/ignore-settings/llms-full.txt): skip words in capitals, with numbers, URLs and e-mail addresses.
