# Columns Property

> Returns or sets the number of equal-width page columns for the whole document or the section chosen by SectionCurrent; returns zero when sections differ.

Returns or sets the number of columns on a page for the whole document or for a document's section. The [SectionCurrent](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-activex/reference/txtextcontrol/sectioncurrent-property/llms-full.txt) property determines the part of the document. If a new value is assigned, all columns receive the same width which is automatically calculated from the page width. To set columns with different widths and distances the [ColumnWidthsAndDistances](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-activex/reference/txtextcontrol/columnwidthsanddistances-property/llms-full.txt) property must be used.

Run time only.

### Remarks

The property returns zero, if more than one section is specified through the [SectionCurrent](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-activex/reference/txtextcontrol/sectioncurrent-property/llms-full.txt) property and these sections have a different number of columns.
