# RTFSelText Property

> Sets or returns the selected text as an RTF string with all formatting attributes, unlike SelText, which uses plain ANSI text; used with SelStart and SelLength.

This property works much like the standard [SelText](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-activex/reference/txtextcontrol/seltext-property/llms-full.txt) property. The [SelStart](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-activex/reference/txtextcontrol/selstart-property/llms-full.txt) and [SelLength](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-activex/reference/txtextcontrol/sellength-property/llms-full.txt) properties can be used to specify a text selection which is to be copied to a string or inserted from a string. The difference between [SelText](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-activex/reference/txtextcontrol/seltext-property/llms-full.txt) and RTFSelText is that with the [SelText](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-activex/reference/txtextcontrol/seltext-property/llms-full.txt) property, text is stored without formatting information in the ANSI format, while RTFSelText uses Rich Text Format to preserve all of the formatting attributes.

### Remarks

RTF (Rich Text Format) is one of the most common interchange formats for text documents. Most word processors available for Windows are able to read and write RTF files.
