Your development machine, your servers and your users' browsers each have requirements to meet before you install TX Text Control .NET Server. The pages below apply to version 34.0 and help when you plan a new project, a deployment or an upgrade.

Most requirements depend on the engine you choose, so decide between Core and Classic first. You choose the engine by the NuGet package you install.

### Requirements at a Glance

| Area | Requirement | Details |
|---|---|---|
| .NET | .NET 8, .NET 9 or .NET 10 for the NuGet packages, which target `net8.0`. .NET Framework 4.x only for Classic ASP.NET applications through the Windows setup. | [.NET Versions](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/installation/requirements/dotnet/llms-full.txt) |
| Development machine | Windows 10 or Windows 11. With the Core engine, you can also develop on Linux with the .NET CLI. | [Operating Systems](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/installation/requirements/operating-systems/llms-full.txt) |
| Deployment | Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2019, 2022 and 2025. Linux distributions and Linux containers with the Core engine. Cloud services such as Azure App Services on Linux and Windows. | [Operating Systems](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/installation/requirements/operating-systems/llms-full.txt) |
| Development tools | Visual Studio 2026 or Visual Studio 2022, or Visual Studio Code with the .NET CLI. Node.js and npm for Angular and React frontends. | [Development Environments](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/installation/requirements/ide/llms-full.txt) |
| Browsers | Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari. The Document Editor needs a WebSocket connection to your server; the Document Viewer uses HTTP requests. | [Browser Requirements](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/installation/requirements/browsers/llms-full.txt) |
| .NET Framework applications | The Visual C++ runtime (x86 or x64, matching the build), the MSXML 3.0 parser for the XML features, IIS and, for the Document Editor, the TX TextControl Service. | [Operating Systems](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/installation/requirements/operating-systems/#development-machine) |

### Core or Classic

The Core engine (`TXTextControl.TextControl.Core.SDK`) runs on Windows and Linux, including Linux containers, and needs no system fonts or GDI. The Classic engine (`TXTextControl.TextControl.ASP.SDK`) runs on Windows only and is the choice for Windows-only applications, existing Classic integrations and DOC and XML support. Core is recommended for new .NET 8 or higher projects; [Core and Classic](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/overview/architecture/#the-document-engine) compares the engines.

### Where to Start

If you set up a new development machine, read the pages in their order: [.NET Versions](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/installation/requirements/dotnet/llms-full.txt), [Operating Systems](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/installation/requirements/operating-systems/llms-full.txt), [Development Environments](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/installation/requirements/ide/llms-full.txt) and, if your application uses the Document Editor or Document Viewer, [Browser Requirements](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/installation/requirements/browsers/llms-full.txt).

If you are preparing a production server, also read the [Deployment Guide](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/deployment/llms-full.txt). For Linux servers and containers, [Linux Requirements](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-server/deployment/linux/requirements/llms-full.txt) lists what the target system needs.
