Version 14.0 is where several parts of today's TX Text Control .NET for Windows Forms began: document sections with their own Page Setup dialog box, the DOCX format, MS Word fields as `ApplicationField` objects and the `MailMerge` class. It also appended documents to each other, described the pages of a document and ran on 64-bit systems.

Version 14.0 was released in January 2008 for the server and the client products, as the press release [Press Release: TX Text Control 14.0 is Released](https://www.textcontrol.com/blog/2008/01/24/press-release-tx-text-control-140-is-released/) announced.

### Platform

TX Text Control is available as a 64-bit edition. All kernel and filter DLLs support 64-bit memory addresses and have the same file names in both editions, and the class library is platform independent. - **Sections.** A document can be divided into sections, each with its own page size, page margins and headers and footers. - **Page Setup dialog box.** [TextControl.SectionFormatDialog](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/sectionformatdialog-method/llms-full.txt) opens the new Page Setup dialog box, in which users set the attributes and the headers and footers of one section or of the whole document. The [SectionChanged](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/sectionchanged-event/llms-full.txt) and [PageChanged](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/pagechanged-event/llms-full.txt) events occur when the input position moves to another section or page.
- **Status bar.** The [StatusBar](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/statusbar/llms-full.txt) shows the section at the input position and the numbers of pages and sections of the document. Properties such as [ShowSection](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/statusbar/showsection-property/llms-full.txt), [ShowSectionCounter](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/statusbar/showsectioncounter-property/llms-full.txt) and [ShowPageCounter](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/statusbar/showpagecounter-property/llms-full.txt) select what it shows.
- **Headers and footers per section.** Each section has its own headers and footers, including a separate header and footer for its first page. [Section.HeadersAndFooters](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/section/headersandfooters-property/llms-full.txt) returns them, and [TextControl.HeadersAndFooters](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/headersandfooters-property/llms-full.txt) those of the whole document. A section that needs no header or footer of its own uses the one of the previous section when [HeaderFooter.ConnectedToPrevious](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/headerfooter/connectedtoprevious-property/llms-full.txt) is `true`.

### DOCX and Fields

- **DOCX.** TX Text Control loads and saves the WordprocessingML part of the Office Open XML format, the ZIP-compressed XML format of MS Word, in files with the extension *.docx* and in memory. The [StreamType](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/streamtype/enumeration/llms-full.txt) and [BinaryStreamType](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/binarystreamtype/enumeration/llms-full.txt) value `WordprocessingML` selects it in `TextControl.Load` and `TextControl.Save`. - **MS Word fields.** Fields of MS Word and RTF documents are imported and exported as [ApplicationField](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/applicationfield/llms-full.txt) objects with the [ApplicationFieldFormat](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/applicationfieldformat/enumeration/llms-full.txt) `MSWord`. The class gives access to the [TypeName](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/applicationfield/typename-property/llms-full.txt) and the [Parameters](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/applicationfield/parameters-property/llms-full.txt) of a field; it doesn't carry out the field's logic. [TextControl.ApplicationFields](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/applicationfields-property/llms-full.txt) lists all fields. Set [LoadSettings.ApplicationFieldFormat](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/loadsettings/applicationfieldformat-property/llms-full.txt) to `MSWord` before loading, and select field types with [LoadSettings.ApplicationFieldTypeNames](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/loadsettings/applicationfieldtypenames-property/llms-full.txt). - **Heiler HighEdit fields.** Fields of Heiler HighEdit in RTF documents are imported and exported as application fields with the `ApplicationFieldFormat` value `HighEdit`, which gives their names.

### Mail Merge

The [DocumentServer.MailMerge](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/llms-full.txt) class merges templates with data in .NET projects such as ASP.NET web applications, web services and Windows services. It uses a `ServerTextControl`, set with [TextComponent](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/textcomponent-property/llms-full.txt), and fields of the type `ApplicationField`.

- **Templates and results.** [LoadTemplate](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/loadtemplate-method/llms-full.txt) and [LoadTemplateFromMemory](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/loadtemplatefrommemory-method/llms-full.txt) load the template, and [SaveDocument](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/savedocument-method/llms-full.txt), [SaveDocumentToMemory](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/savedocumenttomemory-method/llms-full.txt) and [Print](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/print-method/llms-full.txt) output the merged documents in any `StreamType` format, as single documents or as one document.
- **Merging.** [Merge](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/merge-method/llms-full.txt) merges the data, and `MergeBlocks` merges repeating blocks, which [Version 20.0](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/whats-new/older-versions/2000/llms-full.txt) made obsolete. [RemoveEmptyFields](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/removeemptyfields-property/llms-full.txt), `true` by default, removes fields without data, and [UseTemplateFormat](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/usetemplateformat-property/llms-full.txt), `false` by default, applies the page size and margins of the template.
- **Events.** [DataRowMerged](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/datarowmerged-event/llms-full.txt) occurs for each merged data row and [BlockRowMerged](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol-documentserver/mailmerge/blockrowmerged-event/llms-full.txt) for each merged row of a block.

### Documents and Pages

- **Append documents.** [TextControl.Append](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/append-method/llms-full.txt) loads a document from a file, a byte array or a string and appends it to the end of the current document, optionally as a new paragraph or a new section. `ServerTextControl` has the same method.
- **Page coordinates.** [TextControl.GetPages](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/getpages-property/llms-full.txt) returns a [PageCollection](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/pagecollection/llms-full.txt). Because pages can have different sizes, each [Page](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/page/llms-full.txt) gives its [Bounds](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/page/bounds-property/llms-full.txt) and [TextBounds](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/page/textbounds-property/llms-full.txt), its first character and number of characters, its section and its [NumberInSection](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/page/numberinsection-property/llms-full.txt). - **Formatting printer.** [TextControl.FormattingPrinter](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/formattingprinter-property/llms-full.txt) names the printer the document is formatted for, so that the displayed and the printed document have the same dimensions. The formatting device can also be the display.
- **Background printing.** An application can add its own `PrintPageEventHandler` to a `PrintDocument` to print images or watermarks on a page. The content of a `TextControl` or `ServerTextControl` is then printed transparently on top. - **Page background.** [TextControl.BackgroundStyle](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/backgroundstyle-property/llms-full.txt) defines how the page background is shown in page view.

### Upgrade to Version 14.0

- **HeaderFooterCollection.Style.** The property was replaced with [TextControl.HeaderFooterActivationStyle](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/headerfooteractivationstyle-property/llms-full.txt) and [TextControl.HeaderFooterFrameStyle](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-winforms/reference/txtextcontrol/textcontrol/headerfooterframestyle-property/llms-full.txt), which set how a header or footer is activated and framed in the editor.
