Which pieces of TX Text Control .NET for WPF does a window need? The product consists of WPF controls that you declare in XAML and users work with, and of .NET classes that process documents in code. Each has a page below with what it does, how you set it up and the members you start with, so you can pick the parts your application uses.

All of them share one document engine. A template that a user designs in the editor is the document that `MailMerge` fills, and a document that `ServerTextControl` builds in memory looks the same when the editor loads it.

### The Components at a Glance

| Component | What it does | How you add it |
|---|---|---|
| [WPF.TextControl](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/textcontrol/llms-full.txt) | The word processing control in which users write, format and print documents | XAML element from the toolbox |
| [Ribbon Tabs, Toolbars, Rulers, and Status Bar](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/ribbon-toolbars/llms-full.txt) | Ribbon tabs for Microsoft's WPF `Ribbon`, a button bar, mini toolbars, ruler bars and a status bar around the editor | XAML elements from the toolbox, connected to the `TextControl` by name |
| [Sidebar](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/sidebar/llms-full.txt) | Panels beside the editor for search, styles, comments, tracked changes, merge fields or your own content | XAML element from the toolbox, connected by name |
| [MailMerge](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/mailmerge/llms-full.txt) | Merges DataTables, objects and JSON into templates | Created in code, connected to a `TextControl` or a `ServerTextControl` |
| [ServerTextControl](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/servertextcontrol/llms-full.txt) | Creates, converts and changes documents without anything on screen | Created in code |

The toolbox tab **TX Text Control 34.0** holds `TextControl`, `ButtonBar`, `RulerBar`, `StatusBar`, `Sidebar` and the twelve ribbon tabs. The mini toolbars need no item of their own, because the editor opens them. [Product Architecture](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/architecture/llms-full.txt) shows how the parts connect.

### What Makes the WPF Components Different

- **Connections are names.** Properties such as `TextControl.RulerBar`, `TextControl.RibbonFormattingTab` and `Sidebar.TextControl` take the `Name` of another element as a string, so the connections are written in XAML.
- **The ribbon is Microsoft's.** TX Text Control supplies the tabs, and Microsoft's `System.Windows.Controls.Ribbon` hosts them.
- **Classes of the document are shared.** `Selection`, `Table`, `Image` and the other classes of a document are the same in the editor, in `ServerTextControl` and in the other TX Text Control products for .NET.

### Choose a Component

| If you want to | Read |
|---|---|
| Put a document editor into a window | [WPF.TextControl](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/textcontrol/llms-full.txt) |
| Give users ribbon tabs, a button bar, rulers or a status bar | [Ribbon Tabs, Toolbars, Rulers, and Status Bar](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/ribbon-toolbars/llms-full.txt) |
| Show search, styles, comments or your own panel beside the editor | [Sidebar](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/sidebar/llms-full.txt) |
| Fill letters, invoices or reports with data | [MailMerge](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/mailmerge/llms-full.txt) |
| Create or convert documents that nobody watches being made | [ServerTextControl](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/servertextcontrol/llms-full.txt) |

### Where to Start

Begin with [WPF.TextControl](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/textcontrol/llms-full.txt): the bars and the sidebar surround it, and `ServerTextControl` shares its programming interface for documents. Continue with the component your application needs next. If you would rather build a working window first, [Create Your First WPF Application](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/getting-started/document-editor/first-application/llms-full.txt) in Getting Started does that step by step.

- [ServerTextControl](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/servertextcontrol/llms-full.txt): Use ServerTextControl in a WPF application to build, merge and convert documents without a window, then load the result into WPF.TextControl as a byte array.
- [Sidebar](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/sidebar/llms-full.txt): The WPF Sidebar: ten predefined panels, layout by alignment, pinned or as a dialog, opened from ribbon buttons by name, or showing your own FrameworkElement.
- [WPF.TextControl](https://docs.textcontrol.com/tx-text-control-dotnet-wpf/overview/components/textcontrol/llms-full.txt): Declare WPF.TextControl in XAML, choose the view and edit mode, handle Loaded and Changed, and load and save DOCX files: the editor's key members and events.
