TX Spell .NET for Windows Forms

What's New in TX Spell .NET for Windows Forms 9.0

Topic

Where does TX Spell .NET look for its dictionaries, and where do its dialog boxes open? Before version 9.0, both were fixed. TX Spell .NET for Windows Forms 9.0 lets you set the folders of the language data and the position and owner of the built-in dialog boxes, and it runs on .NET Core 3.1, .NET 5 and .NET 6.

Version 9.0 was released in November 2021, together with TX Text Control 30.0. The version after it is Version 10.0. The blog article TX Text Control 30.0 and TX Spell .NET 9.0 Have Been Released announced it.

Version 9.0 at a Glance

AreaWhat is new
Language dataFour properties set the folders of the dictionaries, hyphenation lists, synonym lists and language recognition data
Dialog boxesThe class ShowDialogSettings sets the start position and the owner of the options dialog and the spell check dialog
Platforms.NET Core 3.1, .NET 5 and .NET 6; no calls that depend on the operating system

Folders of the Language Data

Before version 9.0, the four folders of the language data, Dictionaries, HyphenationLists, SynonymLists and LanguageRecognition, were found only in the application's root folder or, on a development machine, below the Assembly folder of the installation. Version 9.0 added a property for each folder to TXSpellChecker and TXSpell: DictionariesDirectoryPath, HyphenationListsDirectoryPath, SynonymListsDirectoryPath and LanguageRecognitionDirectoryPath. Their default, "(Auto)", finds the folders where earlier versions did, so an application that doesn't set them behaves as before. Installing Dictionaries and Language Data describes the folders and the properties.

Position and Owner of the Dialog Boxes

Version 9.0 added the class ShowDialogSettings, which sets where the spell check dialog and the options dialog open and which window owns them: StartPosition, a value of TXSpell.DialogStartPosition, Location and Owner. The spell check dialog has one in SpellCheckDialog.ShowDialogSettings, and OptionsDialog takes one as a parameter. The new property SpellCheckDialog.Location returns the upper-left corner of the spell check dialog in screen coordinates. Choose Where the Dialog Opens and Options Dialog show both in code.

.NET Core 3.1, .NET 5 and .NET 6

TX Spell .NET 9.0 is compatible with .NET Core 3.1, .NET 5 and .NET 6. Text Control replaced every call of TX Spell .NET that depended on the operating system, so that TX Spell .NET can be deployed to Windows, Linux and macOS.
