TX Spell .NET for WPF

What's New in TX Spell .NET for WPF 9.0

Topic

Where does TX Spell .NET look for its dictionaries, and where do its dialog boxes open? Before version 9.0, both were fixed. TX Spell .NET for WPF 9.0 lets you set the folders of the language data and the position and owner of the built-in dialog boxes, and it runs on .NET Core 3.1, .NET 5 and .NET 6.

Version 9.0 was released in November 2021, together with TX Text Control 30.0. The version after it is Version 10.0. The blog article TX Text Control 30.0 and TX Spell .NET 9.0 Have Been Released announced it.

Version 9.0 at a Glance

AreaWhat is new
Language dataFour properties set the folders of the dictionaries, hyphenation lists, synonym lists and language recognition data
Dialog boxesThe class ShowDialogSettings sets the start position and the owner of the options dialog and the spell check dialog
Platforms.NET Core 3.1, .NET 5 and .NET 6; no calls that depend on the operating system

Folders of the Language Data

TX Spell .NET reads its language data from four folders: Dictionaries, HyphenationLists, SynonymLists and LanguageRecognition. Before version 9.0, it looked for them in the application's root folder, or in the \Assembly subdirectory of the installation on a development machine. Version 9.0 adds a property for each folder to TXSpellChecker and TXSpell, such as DictionariesDirectoryPath, so the language data can be kept anywhere, for example in a shared data directory. The default value of each property, "(Auto)", keeps the earlier behavior. Keep the Language Data in Another Folder shows the properties in code.

Position and Owner of the Dialog Boxes

Before version 9.0, the spell check dialog and the options dialog opened in the center of the screen. The new class ShowDialogSettings sets the window that owns a dialog box, its start position, CenterScreen, CenterOwner or Manual, and its location. For the spell check dialog, you change the object that SpellCheckDialog.ShowDialogSettings returns; for the options dialog, you pass one to new overloads of OptionsDialog. The read-only property SpellCheckDialog.Location returns the upper-left corner of the spell check dialog in screen coordinates. Choose Where the Dialog Opens shows the settings in code, and Options Dialog does the same for the options dialog.

.NET Core 3.1, .NET 5 and .NET 6

TX Spell .NET 9.0 is compatible with .NET Core 3.1, .NET 5 and .NET 6. Text Control replaced every call of TX Spell .NET that depended on the operating system, so that its engine, the TXSpell class, can be deployed to Windows, Linux and macOS. WPF applications themselves run on Windows.
