What's New in TX Text Control .NET for WPF 27.0

Topic

Displays with more than 96 DPI shaped version 27.0 of TX Text Control .NET for WPF: the built-in user interface received high-resolution images, and a new class hands these images and texts to the rest of an application. The version also made the control accessible through UI Automation and let every kind of text field be highlighted.

Version 27.0 was released on May 28, 2019, as TX Text Control X17, together with TX Text Control .NET Server, TX Text Control .NET for Windows Forms and TX Text Control ActiveX. Its last full installer, that of Service Pack 2, is dated February 6, 2020. The features below are the ones added since version 26.0.

Display Scaling

TX Text Control handles display scale factors other than 96 DPI and supports applications that are System DPI aware. All parts of the built-in user interface, such as the ribbon tabs, the dialog boxes, the rulers and the selection frames, were adapted and have high-resolution images, so that they can be shown on displays with 300 DPI and more. DPI and Display Scaling describes the settings of today's versions.

ResourceProvider

The new static class WPF.ResourceProvider gives an application access to the resources of the built-in ribbon tabs and toolbars, so that it can use them in its own user interface.

See Custom Tabs and Commands for icons of the built-in items on tabs of your own.

UI Automation

TextControl supports the UI Automation TextPattern and ValuePattern in WPF applications. TextPattern exposes the content of the control, and the text ranges it requires expose format and style attributes of contiguous or disjoint spans of text. Accessibility and UI Automation shows how an automation client reads them.

Text Fields

Every kind of text field can be highlighted with a color, for example a HypertextLink, an ApplicationField such as a merge field or a PageNumberField.

  • When a field is highlighted. TextField.HighlightMode takes Always, Never or Activated. With Activated, the field is highlighted only while it contains the input position.
  • The color. TextField.HighlightColor sets the color. It has to be semitransparent, with an alpha value below 255, so that the text of the field stays visible, and it can then be combined with other colors of the text. The default is black with an alpha value of 60, a light gray.

Fields, Hyperlinks, and Bookmarks describes the text fields of a document.

Reporting Ribbon Tab

RibbonReportingTab.FieldNavigatorSidebar connects the Reporting ribbon tab to a field navigator sidebar, which then shows the structure of the loaded template automatically. See Reporting Ribbon and WPF Dialog Boxes.
